Really unfortunate hand
Players like to talk about misfortunes on the last card and other unfortunate games, when one looses having a good hand that seemed to be winning. Of course, when somebody is loosing – other win and on a poker table there is only one winner – the others loose (except of some Hi\Lo games such as Omaha Hi\Lo, where there are two winners – player that has the strongest hand and player that has the weakest hand). But take a look at the following situation that took place in Aviation Club in Paris – it’s a really surprising misfortune!
It was Texas Holdem. One of players that always played in this club has discovered that he has 2 Kings. After placing stakes a flop was opened and he got the set – the third king and 8 and 9. At the next betting round two players replied and the player we are mentioning got the fourth king. The lucky owner of four of a kind decided to play on and said “check” – the other two players remaining were glad to get a card for free. The fifth card was 10 and the last betting round was really hot – finally there were 2000 euro in pot.
It was time to open. However, owner of the four of a kind wasn’t disappointed seeing 6 and 7 of one of the opponents that gave him straight-flush. Moreover, he nearly laughed having surprised club’s novice members. Then he explained everything.
The point is that Aviation Club has an accumulative jackpot for losers. Best loosing hand gets this jackpot in case if it isn’t lower than care. At this time this jackpot was already about 18000 euro, so getting such jackpot is much more profitable than to win a pot of 2000 euro.
But his joy was short. Third player opened the Jack and the Queen of hearts – high street flush. Thus the second player got the pot and the third one got the loser’s jackpot having left this guy with care without any money! Can you imagine such misfortune?
But that’s not the end of a story. In an hour, on the other table two players got care at the same time and the owner of lower care won the loser’s jackpot. However, 18000 euro was just taken by worst best hand an hour ago, so there was only 100 euro in jackpot. Of course he has bet much more than 100 euro in pot. It appears that loser’s jackpot is a funny thing!
